World Bank Urges New National Finance Commission Award Soon
ISLAMABAD: A comprehensive new structural assessment report released by the World Bank has sparked intense political debate by demanding immediate changes to Pakistan’s fiscal federalism and resource distribution model. The international financial institution strongly recommended the urgent implementation of a fresh National Finance Commission (NFC) Award to fix the widening federal fiscal deficit and force provinces to improve local tax collection.
While the central ruling coalition views this as a crucial step toward macroeconomic stability, major provincial political stakeholders are resisting the push, fearing it will rollback historic regional financial autonomy achieved under the 18th Constitutional Amendment.
