Man accused of fleeing with 20kg gold from Lahore jewellery market

A major scandal has surfaced in Lahore’s Latif Jewellery Market after 20 kilograms of gold reportedly went missing, prompting police to register multiple cases on complaints from affected jewellers.

One of the complainants, jeweller Noorul Ain, has lodged a case over the disappearance of gold worth Rs9 crore. In his complaint, he told police that the gold had been handed to Wasim Akhtar as a trust deposit. Despite repeated demands, the gold was not returned.

Police said the suspect allegedly took gold from several jewellers before fleeing. Ichhra police have registered cases and stepped up efforts to arrest the accused.

According to police officials, more cases from affected jewellers are being registered swiftly as more victims come forward.

According to Express News, in another case filed against Sheikh Wasim, police said the suspect is accused of taking gold worth Rs9 crore from Noorul Ain alone.

Travel history under scrutiny

Police have also widened the investigation beyond fraud and are examining other possible angles. A review of Sheikh Wasim’s travel history has revealed frequent foreign trips over many years.

Records show that he left Lahore airport for Malaysia on November 8, just days before the alleged incident. He returned to Lahore from Thailand on November 16. His overseas travel reportedly began on May 12, 2007, with repeated visits to Malaysia, Bangkok, Dubai and various cities in Saudi Arabia.

According to the travel record, Sheikh Wasim travelled to Saudi Arabia 12 times and to Dubai eight times.

Police said the suspect switched off his mobile phone after making his last call at 11:26pm. The person who received that call has now been included in the investigation.

Vehicles also being investigated

Police records show that three vehicles were being used by the suspect. One of these vehicles was recently transferred to another person’s name, while investigations into the remaining two are ongoing.

Authorities say efforts to trace and arrest the suspect are continuing, as more details emerge from the expanding probe.
