Argentina reach FIFA World Cup final with victory over England

Argentina has once again made its place in the final match of the FIFA World Cup (WC) 2026 by defeating England.

Defending champions Argentina came from behind to defeat England 2-1 in a dramatic FIFA World Cup 2026 semi-final, setting up a title clash with Spain.

The match, played in Atlanta, remained goalless at half-time despite both sides creating several chances.

England broke the deadlock in the 55th minute when Anthony Gordon found the net to put his side ahead and raise hopes of reaching their first World Cup final in nearly six decades.

Argentina, however, responded strongly in the closing stages. Enzo Fernández equalised in the 85th minute, before Lautaro Martínez completed the comeback with a stoppage-time winner to seal a 2-1 victory.

The result sends Argentina into their second consecutive World Cup final, where they will face Spain, who booked their place after defeating France in the first semi-final.

England’s defeat ends their hopes of reaching a first World Cup final since 1966, when they won the tournament on home soil.

The FIFA World Cup 2026 final between Argentina and Spain is scheduled to take place on Sunday, while England and France will meet in the third-place play-off on Saturday.
